Devoting One Day a Month to Cacao
Every now and then, I devote an entire day to cacao.
Not as a cleanse.
Not as a detox.
Not because I’m trying to lose weight, punish my body, or chase some elusive version of wellness.
I do it because I love cacao. And after years of drinking it, I’ve discovered that the more intentionally I spend time with it, the deeper our relationship becomes.
This isn’t something I’m suggesting everyone should do. It’s an invitation for the women who already have a relationship with cacao.
The women who have been drinking it for a while.
The women who are curious to go a little deeper.
To become a little quieter.
To become a little more available.
Not to anyone else…
But to themselves.
I choose my day carefully.
I don’t just pick a random date on the calendar. I tune into my body first. I pay attention to my cycle. And more often than not, I choose a day around ovulation.
Not because anyone told me I should. Simply because that’s when I feel the most alive. The most energised. The most creative. The most magnetic. The most… juicy. It’s the season of my cycle where my imagination stretches a little further.
Where dreaming feels effortless. Where ideas seem to arrive from nowhere. I’ve learnt that this is when cacao and I seem to have our most beautiful conversations.
Why do I do it?
Because every time I intentionally create this kind of space, something shifts. Not because the cacao changes. Because I do.
I become quieter.
More present.
More receptive.
More willing to notice.
And that’s when the magic begins. Not the kind of magic you can measure. The kind you feel.
I often describe these moments as little love letters from cacao. Not literal letters. Not voices. Not something I expect everyone to experience.
Simply the feeling that because I’ve slowed down enough to listen, I’ve become aware of thoughts, feelings and creative ideas that were patiently waiting beneath the noise of everyday life.
Sometimes it’s a reminder to trust myself. Sometimes it’s an idea for a new product. Sometimes it’s clarity around a decision I’ve been wrestling with. Sometimes it’s simply a deep feeling of gratitude.
Whether those love letters come from cacao, my intuition, my subconscious, or somewhere else entirely honestly doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that I leave those days feeling more connected.
To myself.
To my creativity.
To my body.
To life.
Curious what one of my cacao days actually looks like?
First of all… There are no rules. This is simply a glimpse into my world. Borrow what resonates. Leave what doesn’t. Your day doesn’t need to look anything like mine.
The night before, I’ll often head to bed a little earlier than usual. I love waking up knowing I’ve intentionally created a whole day with nowhere else I need to be.
The morning begins slowly. Before I prepare my first cup of cacao, I’ll usually have a big mug of warm water with fresh lemon. Then comes one of my favourite parts. The music goes on.
Always. If you know me, you’ll know I’m firmly on Team Dance With Your Cacao.
Silence has its place, but not in my kitchen. There’ll be music pumping through the house while I prepare my brew. I’ll light an incense stick. Open the windows. Take a deep breath. Stir my cacao. Watch those beautiful bubbles begin to appear. Smile.
Sometimes I’ll dance around the kitchen with my mug before I’ve even taken my first sip. For me, that’s all part of the ritual. That’s medicine too.
Throughout the day, cacao becomes my nourishment. I’ll prepare another cup whenever it feels right. Perhaps enjoy some cacao tea. Nibble on cacao buttons if my body asks for them. Drink plenty of water.
And every so often I’ll pause and ask myself, “What would feel really nourishing right now?”
Sometimes it’s a long walk along the beach.
Sometimes it’s lying in the sunshine.
Sometimes it’s sitting beneath a tree.
Sometimes it’s doing absolutely nothing.
One thing I almost always do is pull out one of my favourite card decks. Not because I’m searching for answers. But because I love the conversations they spark.
A single card has this beautiful way of opening a door I hadn’t noticed before. Then I simply allow the day to unfold. This is usually when my creativity comes alive.
Ideas begin arriving. Sometimes it’s a new recipe. Sometimes it’s a product idea. Sometimes it’s a workshop. Sometimes it’s a dream that’s been quietly waiting for permission to come to life.
I don’t chase the ideas. I simply allow cacao to fuel my creative flow. And every single time, I walk away feeling like my relationship with cacao has deepened just a little more.
This isn’t about restriction.
Quite the opposite.
It’s about devotion.
It’s about creating enough space to become fascinated by your own experience.
It’s about slowing down long enough to notice what your body is already trying to tell you.
It’s about giving yourself permission to spend a day in relationship with one of the most extraordinary plants on the planet.
No expectations.
No pressure.
No promises.
Just curiosity.
If you’ve been drinking cacao for months, or even years, and something inside you is whispering, I’d love to try that… Perhaps choose one day next month.
Choose a day that feels expansive. A day where you don’t have to rush. A day where you can let cacao become your companion. Dance. Laugh. Rest. Walk. Pull some cards. Dream. Create. Notice what arises.
There is nothing to achieve. Nothing to get right. Only an opportunity to spend a little more intentional time with a plant that has been quietly inviting human beings into connection for thousands of years.
And if you do decide to devote a day to cacao, I’d absolutely love to hear about it. Every woman receives her own love letters. I’m endlessly fascinated by what unfolds when we create enough space to listen.
Pleasure is the purpose.
With all my heart
